The image of the car with streamers and the grey swirl behind it is an anaglyph image. It is a form of stereoscopy that was popular in the 1950's with 3D movies. It is comprised of two image of the same object from slightly differnt views. One image is tinted blue, the other red. If you wear the 3D red and blue glasses, like the one pictured in the top right corner of the poster, one eye sees one image, the other sees the other, and your brain interprits the differences as three-dimensional image. The image was modeled and rendered in Animation:Master. A:M later held a stereo image contest -- this image was a prize winner! The poster was a great success at the trade show for Fluent.
So, what's with the comment about the Christmas card?
I like to make and send a Christmas/ Holiday Card to my clients. It gives me a chance to do something to please myself and play with some illustration techniques and styles. This year, I created this 3D snowman in A:M, ordered the glasses, and had cards printed. I knew I had something special when the FedEx delivery person liked the sample card taped to the shipping box. She couldn't believe it when I handed her the glasses and she looked at it again!

Many people called and commented on the card. The marketing people at Fluent saw the potential to use this technique to attract the attention of potential clients at a trade show. And thus the 3D auto poster project was born!
